What sort of things am I into? Well, I definitely don't like crowds or noisy clubs and bars! Why does the "music" have to be so loud? I also hate sport in any shape or form. I keep fit by going to the gym and walking to work and the idea of engaging in some silly contest, generally involving chasing a ball, seems totally pointless to me. And as for watching someone else do it.......??
I much prefer a quiet walk in the country or along a beach after a pub lunch. I love wide, open windswept places, preferably high up with a view or dramatic cliffs and crashing waves. But I also like relaxing in the sun in a tranquil, sandy cove with dunes and blue water.
I also love trees, particularly beech forests. Especially in the spring when they are so fresh and green and then in autumn when they turn all red and gold and yellow and leave a carpet of colour all around your feet.
I am very lucky living where I do on the south coast near the New Forest as all of these are readily accessible to anyone just a short drive away. My favourite pub for a good lunch is The New Forest Inn at Emery Down, just outside Lyndhurst.
I have given up smoking and rarely drink beer these days but I do enjoy a glass (or several!) of wine. I like red or white, particular favourites being Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cotes du Rhone or a really cold Muscadet or Soave. My taste in food is fairly traditional except that I don't like fish at all (except tuna), all those little bones are just too much and don't like the fishy taste. I eat a lot of chicken but also love roast beef or a good, lean steak, well done with chips and salad. I make a mean spag bol and enjoy lasagne and moussaka. I don't like very spicy food but am ok with a chilli or curry so long as it is fairly mild.
I also collect porcelain figures and enjoy hunting for bargains at antique fairs and boot-sales but I haven't done much lately as I feel this is an activity best shared with someone with a similar interest.
I am quite romantic by nature and enjoy spending time with that special someone, giving presents, holding hands and going for walks arm-in-arm, sharing those little moments that only lovers can. My ideal evening would be cooking a meal for the girl of my dreams and curling up with a bottle of wine and a good film.
Talking of films, I think the one that
moved me the most in my whole life was Titanic. It has everything I look
for in a film; great story and music, romance, history, excellent effects,
local interest here in Southampton, but above all it was sheer enjoyment
and escapism! I don't really like all-out action or muscle films and am
not keen on blood and gore horror, I like films with a bit of intelligence.
The best film I have seen this year was The Green Mile. I always make a
point of seeing the new Bond films when they come out but, good as Pierce
Brosnan is, you cannot beat the old Sean Connery ones from the 60's.
